Complete Guide to Instagram Grid Design & Feed Aesthetics
Understanding the Reverse Chronological Posting Secret
The most common mistake when creating an Instagram photo grid is posting the top-left tile first. Because Instagram displays your profile in reverse chronological order (the newest post always appears in the top-left slot, while older posts move down and to the right), you must upload your sliced tiles in reverse:
- Post Tile #1 FIRST: This slice belongs in the bottom-right corner of your grid.
- Post Tile #2 SECOND: This slice belongs in the bottom-middle.
- Post Tile #3 THIRD: This slice belongs in the bottom-left.
- Continue in numbered order: Repeat until the final tile (#9 in a 3×3 grid), which lands in the top-left corner as your latest upload, completing the giant image.
